Merry Christmas! 

For my loved ones, I personally wanted to dedicate this blog to you since I laboriously scoured the internet looking for the PERFECT rendition of "I'll be home for Christmas" just.  for. you.  I didn't realize it would be a difficult process, but it was. Some were too glitzy, too old, or too used. But finally, I found one that was "just right"--- a homemade quirky one that could've been one I created had I the voice or talent to strum a ukulele. Once you play it, you will quickly see why I chose it. The characteristics between me and this dorky, but loveable girl are uncanny. So to this, I play for you in spirit! I wish I was there. Merry Christmas.

Zorba Ballet

Do you remember the 1964 film classic, "Zorba the Greek," adapted from Nikos Kazantzakis' novel of the same title? The film was a role-defining achievement for Anthony Quinn, who played Alexis Zorba, the high-spirited Greek peasant, who teaches a studious young man the dance of life - a.k.a. the film's philosophic anthem for the joy of living - set on the beautiful backdrop of the island of Crete.  Following the film's popularity came the musical and ballet adaptations. Last month I was fortunate to have attended the latter, titled "Zorba."  The Cairo Ballet Dance Company did an excellent job, and I was swept away with the music and the magesty of the performance. While I couldn't take pics at the ballet, I found a film clip of Zorba's famous dance for your viewing pleasure. OPAAA!

Andrea Bocelli performed at the Cairo pyramids on September 25, 2010 --- AND YOURS TRULY WAS THERE! I was so excited to be part of that magical night. I missed his concert when he performed at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Italy when I lived there in 2005. To miss seeing the world's biggest selling solo artist in the history of classical music perform at the world's oldest and still active opera house was one of the biggest regrets I ever had. I made a promise to myself that should another iconic venue come up with him performing at it and me nearby, then I would be there no matter what! Hence, Andrea Bocelli performed at the Cairo pyramids---- AND YOURS TRULY WAS THERE!

The symphony and choir came out first, and a hush fell over the audience.

The Great Pyramid and the Sphinx lit up in dramatic colors to coincide with the moods and rhythms of the music.

And then the great tenor appeared on stage, and immediately enthralled the audience.

The concert was 2 hours long, and was marvelously accompanied by Mr. Bocelli's traveling soprano, alto, and violinist.  After the finale, Andrea Bocelli performed 5 encores that pleased the audience, and left them begging for more.

Oh, Neti Pot, Let Me Count The Ways!

So, with all the dust, pollen and other allergens in the air especially during Spring time, many peeps, including self, are suffering annoying allergy symptoms such as sneezing, congestion, runny nose, and post-nasal drips. Ugh! Suffer no more. Nasal irrigation is my new best friend, all in the form of my Neti Pot. Thank you Oprah, Dr. Oz, and BFFs who recommended I use this product when my allergies were acting up. Just remember to use lukewarm water, keep your mouth open during the process, sound out the letter "K" (helps with not getting solution down your throat), and to do irrigate 1-2 times a day. I rarely plug a product, but this really worked for me! My allergens have a new foe this season, and the Neti Pot will prevail! Boo-Ya!

There's quite a bit of buzz on Drew Barrymore's directorial debut, Whip it, that comes out in theaters today. The critics are raving about Drew's new movie, which makes me happy for the remarkable 34 y/o, who is scion to a dynasty of lauded theatrical and Hollywood legends. Grandaughter to 20's screen and stage star John Barrymore, who was brother to acting power weights Lionel and Ethel Barrymore, Drew has forged a name in her own right! The mercurially fabulous Drew Barrymore can now list talented actress, producer, AND director to her repertoire of credits. I hope the success of her new movie will make up for the Emmy loss last month for her exceptional portrayal of Edith Bouvier Beale, a.k.a. "Little Edie", in the HBO film Grey Gardens.

Laverne and Shirley Together Again!

So, two years ago my dearest BFF Debbie visited me when I was living in SoCal. I took her all over the place... Joshua Tree (because we SOOO loved Bono and the boyz back then).... Palm Springs.... San Diego.... Coronado.... just about all my favorite stomping grounds that we had time to visit in 4 fun-packed days.

She will arrive over the Labor Day weekend, and spend an entire week with me in Cairo!! I'm SOOOO excited! My first stateside visitor!! I have so much planned for her visit. Debbie and I go waaaay back. We've been BFFs since I was a senior in high school if that tells you anything. LoL. After the Eric episode (that's Eric with a "C", bc Erik with a "K" came later), she moved to Wilmington while I was attending UNCW.... and the hilarious misadventures that followed as roomies had us pegged as the Laverne and Shirley of the 80's. LoL. Oh! The stories we could tell! So many laughable "Laverne and Shirley-esque" moments that still have us chuckling whenever we recall them during a "remember when?" marathon. In honor of Debbie's visit, here's a li'l vintage (Ugh! Has it come to that?!?) Laverne & Shirley flashback.... Enjoy!

A Burtonesque Alice in Wonderland

Visionary filmmaker Tim Burton is in post-production on yet another film adaptation - Lewis Carroll's opium induced classic Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Talk about the perfect marriage! I can't think of another film director more suited to pull off Alice in Wonderland's bizarre imageries and eclectic characters than Burton. Take for example some of his other films: Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber on Fleet Street. While I've always found his films a bit dark and outlandish for my taste, Burton never fails to deliver a story that resonates a touch of humanity graced with indelible impressions. Burton has teamed up again with fave actors Johnny Depp (Mad Hatter) and wife Helena Bonham Carter (Queen of Hearts), who will play opposite relative newcomer Mia Wasikowska (Alice). AIW will be out on March 5, 2010 in 3-D and 2-D. Looks like it'll be an enthralling trip down the rabbit hole. So, don't be late for a very imporant date!!
